About Rhonda Skipper

Rhonda Skipper
has been a resident of Walton County for 31 years, and has over 27 years of experience in Walton County Government.  Mrs. Skipper was elected to the Office of Walton County Tax Collector in November 2004, receiving 71% of the votes cast in the general election.  Since taking office in January 2005, she has reorganized and energized the tax collector's office into a progressive, efficient and innovative government agency.  Mrs. Skipper's office was recognized by the combined Okaloosa and Walton County Economic Development Boards as the 2005 Workplace of Excellence Award winner for small businesses, employing less that 50 employees.

Mrs. Skipper obtained her Florida Tax Collector's Certification through the Department of Revenue in only 9 months.  She also served as the Region One Director for the Florida Tax Collector's Association's Service Corporation and on the Association's Executive Board as the Region One Director.

Among the more notable accomplishments of the office is the deployment of an informative Web site that offers online transactions, via credit/debit cards, cross training of the entire staff to perform all transactions, implementation of a high speed remittance system to process tax payments at a rate of 180 documents per minute, and increased public awareness and information related to tax and registration regulations via the media.

Mrs. Skipper has a long history of community service to include active membership and participation in:

  • First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs
  • Pilot International
  • Kiwanis International
  • Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast
  • Chautauqua Voices
  • Walton County Chamber of Commerce
  • St. Jude Children's Research Hospital
  • Pregnancy Support Center, Co-chair

Mrs. Skipper enjoys singing at various community and church events, and was honored to have been chosen to perform the National Anthem during an area visit by President George W. Bush in 2004.

Rhonda's husband, Jeff Skipper, is the Property and Fleet Manager for the Walton County Sheriff's Office. She is a proud mother of three children (Sarah, Cole, and Lloyd). Sarah and her husband, U.S. Army Major Nathan Martin, are currently stationed in Australia along with their children, Ryker and Miriam. Lloyd, his wife Ashleigh and daughters Gracie and Molleigh, are residents of DeFuniak Springs. Cole is also a DeFuniak Springs resident.
